📚 One Sentence Book Review: From Summary to Public Voice

🗓 Session 1: From Summary to Review

🎯 Objective:

Understand the difference between a summary and a personal review, then write your own one-sentence review.

🔥 Warm-Up (10 mins)

💬 “What makes a good book?”
💡 “What do you remember most after reading?”
Students share favorite books. L1 is okay, but translate a little into English. 🌐

🧾 Book Review Sentence Focus (15 mins)

Compare:

🔹 Summary:
This book is about a boy who learns he is a wizard. 🧙‍♂️

🔹 Review:
This book surprised me because the main character grows stronger by trusting his friends. 💪👫

📌 A review needs opinion + reason! The “why” is important.

🧩 Sentence Scaffold Practice (15 mins)

✏️ Starter sentence examples:

  • I liked this book because… ❤️

  • This book made me think about… 💭

  • Reading this book helped me… 📘➡️🧠

  • This story was special to me because… 🌟

👫 Pair work: Try 2–3 starters, then share & choose one.

🧠 Draft: Your One-Sentence Review (15 mins)

📝 Write one review sentence from your book.
👂 Share in groups — What’s interesting? What’s unclear?

🧹 Session 2: Revision & Expansion

🎯 Objective:

Correct grammar, revise meaning, and make your sentence stronger and longer.

🔍 Error Hunt (15 mins)

👀 Find and fix common errors:

  • 🔁 Word order

  • 🔤 Verb form

  • 🧱 Preposition/article

  • 🔧 Spelling/awkward phrases

🛠 Work in pairs to fix 2–3 sample sentences.

🤝 Peer Feedback & Self-Revision (30 mins)

📋 Use a checklist:

✅ Does the sentence explain why the book mattered?
✅ Are there any grammar issues?
✅ Could it be longer or more detailed?

🔄 Revise using feedback.

🧩 Add a character name, feeling, or quote to extend the sentence.

📣 Session 3: Public Voice & Critical Thinking

🎯 Objective:

Share publicly, reflect on your review, and develop your voice as a reader.

🗣 Share Out Loud (15–20 mins)

🎤 Read your review to a group.
🏅 Optional: Vote on most surprising, emotional, or creative sentence.

  • What do our reviews say about what we value in stories? 💡

  • How do personal experiences shape our reviews? 🌍

  • Why is explaining “why” powerful? ⚡️
