📚🎬 Project Title:

Book to Screen: Class Book Survey & Adaptation Project


👥 Target Learners:

Intermediate EFL learners (B1–B2 CEFR), adaptable for high school or university


⏰ Lesson Duration:

4–6 class sessions (45–60 minutes each) over 2–3 weeks


🎯 Project Objectives:

  • ✅ Practice reading for meaning, values, and interest

  • 🧠 Develop decision-making and critical thinking skills

  • 💻 Use TELL tools for collaboration and reflection

  • 🗳️ Engage in authentic, student-centered choice

  • 🎭 Create a class consensus on a “Book to Movie” project


🧰 Materials Needed:

  • 📖 Curated list of 5–8 age/level-appropriate books (with blurbs & themes)

  • 📝 Book Survey Form (digital or paper)

  • 💡 Tools: Google Forms, Jamboard, Padlet, Flipgrid

  • 📺 Projector or shared screen for presenting

  • 📓 Reflection journal (physical or digital)


📘 Project Phases:


🟦 Phase 1: Book Preview & Survey (Session 1–2)

🎯 Goal: Introduce the books, scaffold vocabulary and themes, guide personal preference reflection.

🧩 Activities:

  1. 🖼️ Book Gallery Walk / Slideshow:
    Preview book covers, blurbs, settings, key characters in a “gallery” format.

  2. 💬 Vocabulary Warm-up:
    Teach genre/theme vocabulary with Quizlet or a word cloud.

  3. 📝 Book Interest Survey:
    Students rank books and respond to:

    • 📍 Setting preferences

    • 👤 Character types

    • 💬 Genres or themes they enjoy

    • ❤️ What makes a story meaningful to you?

  4. 🏠 Homework:
    Read sample pages from 2 books and journal about:

    • 📚 Comprehension level

    • 💡 Interest level

    • 🌱 Personal connection or values


🟦 Phase 2: Ranking & Group Discussion (Session 3)

🎯 Goal: Express preferences, support opinions with reasons, practice listening & collaboration.

🧩 Activities:

  1. 📊 Ranking Form:
    Students rank their top 3 books and explain their reasoning.

  2. 🤝 Small Group Talks:
    Practice persuasive speaking:

    • “I liked this book because…”

    • “This story connects to me because…”

    • “I think this would be a great movie because…”

  3. 🗳️ Class Vote:
    Nominate and vote anonymously via Mentimeter or Google Forms.


🟦 Phase 3: The Winner Becomes a Movie! (Session 4–5)

🎯 Goal: Transform book into a movie pitch using creativity, storytelling, and collaboration.

🧩 Activities:

  1. 🎭 Creative Team Roles:
    Groups take on:

    • 🎬 Casting Directors

    • 🖼️ Set Designers

    • 📝 Screenwriters

    • 💡 Theme Detectives

  2. 💻 TELL Tools for Creation:

    • 🎤 Flipgrid for scene reading or character analysis

    • 🎨 Canva or digital storyboard tools

    • 🧠 Use AI image generators or visuals for mood boards


🟦 Phase 4: Final Showcase (Session 6)

🎯 Goal: Share learning and demonstrate understanding through a creative, student-led presentation.

🧩 Activities:

  1. 🌟 Mini Showcase Presentations:
    Each group presents:

    • 🎭 Acted or narrated scenes

    • 🖼️ Visual storyboards

    • 🎙️ Recorded voiceovers with visuals

  2. 🪞 Reflection & Feedback:

    • ✍️ Reflection journal prompts:

      • “What did I learn about stories and values?”

      • “How did I contribute to my group?”

      • “How did our ideas change through discussion?”

    • 🗣️ Peer feedback using “⭐ Two Stars & a Wish 🌠”
