Fashion Show

Project-Based Lesson Plan: “Design and Host Your Own Fashion Show”

Level:

Intermediate to Upper-Intermediate (B1–B2 CEFR)

Duration:

3–4 class sessions (45-60 minutes each)

Objectives:

  • Learn and use fashion-related vocabulary and descriptive adjectives.

  • Practice speaking skills: describing clothes, giving opinions, and presenting.

  • Develop teamwork, planning, and creativity.

  • Build confidence in public speaking through a final fashion show presentation.


Materials:

  • Pictures of different clothes/fashion styles (magazines, printouts, or digital slides)

  • Paper, markers, scissors, glue (for making posters or fashion catalogues)

  • Props or costumes (optional, or use drawings/photos)

  • Vocabulary handout (clothing items, colors, materials, styles, adjectives)

  • Score sheets for peer feedback (optional)


Lesson 1: Introduction and Vocabulary Building

Warm-up (10 minutes)

  • Show pictures of different fashion styles (casual, formal, sporty, traditional, etc.).

  • Ask: What are these people wearing? What colors? What style?

  • Introduce or review fashion vocabulary:
    Clothes: dress, jacket, jeans, skirt, blouse, suit, tie, sneakers, boots, hat, scarf...
    Materials: cotton, leather, silk, denim, wool
    Adjectives: colorful, tight, loose, elegant, casual, trendy, old-fashioned, comfortable

Activity 1: Vocabulary Matching (15 minutes)

  • Hand out vocabulary cards or worksheets.

  • Students match words with pictures or definitions.

  • Practice pronunciation as a class.

Activity 2: Describing Clothes (15 minutes)

  • Pair work: Students describe what their partner is wearing or describe pictures aloud.

  • Encourage using adjectives and materials.

Homework:

  • Students find pictures of outfits (magazines, online) or draw their own and write 3-5 sentences describing them.


Lesson 2: Planning the Fashion Show

Warm-up (5 minutes)

  • Review key vocabulary with a quick quiz or flashcards.

Activity 1: Form groups (3-5 students)

  • Explain the project: Each group will create a fashion show with models, outfits, and commentary.

  • Roles: Designer, Model, Commentator, Stylist, Photographer (optional)

Activity 2: Choose a theme/style (20 minutes)

  • Groups decide the theme of their show (e.g., summer casual, traditional clothes, futuristic fashion, sportswear).

  • Brainstorm ideas and make a mood board (drawings, pictures).

Activity 3: Create outfit descriptions (20 minutes)

  • Each group writes descriptions for their outfits (3–5 sentences per outfit).

  • Use new vocabulary and descriptive language.

  • Practice reading the descriptions aloud.

Homework:

  • Prepare costumes or drawings for the outfits.

  • Write a script for the fashion show commentary.


Lesson 3: Rehearsal and Presentation

Warm-up (5 minutes)

  • Quick review of vocabulary and useful phrases for presenting:
    “Here we have...,” “This outfit is made of...,” “It is perfect for...,” “The model is wearing...”

Activity 1: Rehearse (20 minutes)

  • Groups practice their fashion show: models walk, commentators describe.

  • Teacher circulates and helps with pronunciation and fluency.

Activity 2: Fashion Show Presentations (30 minutes)

  • Each group presents their fashion show to the class.

  • Audience listens, asks questions, or votes for categories like “Most Creative,” “Best Commentary,” “Best Model.”

Wrap-up:

  • Group reflection: What did you learn? What was difficult? What was fun?


Extension Ideas:

  • Invite other classes or parents to watch the fashion show.

  • Create a digital fashion catalog or slideshow.

  • Write a short fashion review article or blog post as follow-up writing practice.
