January 틈 Reflective Practice Gathering 2026

January Reflective Practice Gathering

Weathering Change: Seasons of a Teaching Life

틈: Where Thought Finds Breathing Room

First Saturday: January 3rd at 2pm | Gwangju
📍 Sontag & Eicher Book Café, Dongmyung-dong

January’s Focus

January opens the yearly rhythm of 틈: Where Thought Finds Breathing Room by turning toward change—not as disruption to overcome, but as something to be weathered.

Teaching lives, like seasons, move through cycles of intensity and rest, clarity and fog, growth and dormancy. Some changes arrive gradually; others come abruptly. This month’s reflective practice invites attention to where you are right now in that cycle—and how you might meet the coming year with greater gentleness.

This gathering is hosted as part of my own ongoing Reflective Practice. Others are welcome to join if the pace, tone, and intention feel supportive.

Guiding Theme

Weathering Change: Seasons of a Teaching Life

Rather than asking how to fix or optimize teaching, January’s prompts invite reflection on:

  • transitions already underway

  • changes being resisted or postponed

  • personal “weather patterns” such as energy, fatigue, tenderness, or renewal

  • where small, quiet beginnings might be possible in the year ahead

The emphasis is on noticing, not resolving.

How the Gathering Will Unfold

The structure is light and optional:

  • quiet arrival and settling

  • guided reflection prompts

  • individual writing or sketching

  • shared silence and optional conversation

Participants are free to follow the prompts closely, adapt them, or simply sit with their own reflections. Silence is a full form of participation.

January Reflection Worksheet

A reflection worksheet titled:

“Weathering Change: Seasons of a Teaching Life”

will be available during the gathering. I will have a limited number of printed copies, and the worksheet is also available online for free.

The worksheet includes:

  • a seasonal check-in

  • guided reflective writing

  • space for drawing or symbolic expression

  • a short note to a future self

  • a closing word for the next season

Who This Gathering Is For

This January session may be a good fit if you:

  • teach or work in education, care, or community-facing roles

  • are entering a period of transition, uncertainty, or renewal

  • value quiet reflection over discussion-driven spaces

  • are comfortable with ambiguity and unfinished thinking

Who This Gathering Is Not For

This session may not be a good fit if you are looking for:

  • training, coaching, or professional development credits

  • therapy or emotional processing support

  • advice-giving or problem-solving

  • outcome-oriented discussion or debate

An Invitation

January asks for less urgency and more listening.

This gathering offers —a small pause at the start of the year where thought can breathe, seasons can be named, and teaching life can be met with care rather than demand.

You are welcome to join for this month only, to observe quietly, or to engage as feels right.

Nothing needs to be resolved here.
