Gwangju-Jeonnam Chapter KOTESOL President

ISAN Online Conference

Daejeon KOTESOL Write-a-thon Workshop

If I were to thematically code my 2024, a few possibilities surface naturally. Looking across my ISAN autoethnography on liminality and decolonizing practice, the Daejeon Write-a-thon on reflective writing accountability, my chapter leadership in Gwangju-Jeonnam, and the monthly SIG collaborations — there's a clear through-line: I spent the year building and tending spaces. Physical, virtual, and intellectual spaces where educators could reflect, be vulnerable, and grow.

Whether it was a Zoom with a SIG, a write-a-thon, a coffee connection, or a conference stage, the work was always about creating the conditions for someone else's — and my own — transformation.

Some thematic framings that resonate:

  • "Tending the Third Space" — liminal, in-between spaces where learning and identity shift happen
  • "Writing the Room" — authoring community, literally and figuratively, through writing, hosting, and facilitating
  • "Cultivating Reflective Community" — capturing both the writing accountability work and the chapter-building
  • "From the Borderlands, Building Bridges" — leaning into AnzaldĂșa and a social justice framing

Any one of these could anchor the year. Honestly, all four feel true at once.
